FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2016 Fall Flavours Festival another record year
The numbers are in and the 2016 Fall Flavours Festival was the biggest yet. “More people attended than ever before, we presented a great lineup of events featuring PEI’s finest foods and some of Canada’s best chefs. Every way we look at it, 2016 has been an outstanding success” says John Rowe, Chair of Food Island Partnership, the Festival’s organizer.
The Fall Flavours Culinary Festival ran from Sept. 2nd – October 2nd with events right across Prince Edward Island. Headlining the Festival were fifteen Signature Events hosted by Celebrity Chefs including Michael Smith, Lynn Crawford, Mark McEwan and six other television personality chefs. Culinary Events showcasing Island chefs and locations, unique PEI food experiences at Culinary Adventures and more than 30 participating restaurants featuring special Fall Flavours menus round out the Festival.
In total, more than 15,000 people participated in Festival events, and the big draws were even bigger, with Signature Event attendance up 8% over 2015 participation levels. Key tourism markets were well represented, with 12% from Ontario, 10% from Western Canada, 8% from Nova Scotia and 9% of people from New Brunswick. “These numbers are significant,” says Rowe. “Growing participation every year, and this is seven straight years the festival has grown, shows just how successful the Festival is in attracting visitors to PEI. It’s a useful contributor to fall visitation and a great way to introduce our incredible PEI food to new users and customers.”
“Signature Events are our marquee events, but we’re also exceptionally proud of our Culinary Events” says Rowe, “Featuring our outstanding local chefs and food, they give our visitors a uniquely PEI food and dining experience that they’ll never forget. It’s those experiences that help us continue to attract new visitors and new PEI food customers”.
The Fall Flavours Festival is hosted by Canada’s Food Island and is an initiative of the Food Island Partnership. Food Island Partnership is a collaboration between the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Prince Edward Island departments of Economic Development and Tourism, and Agriculture and Fisheries, as well as industry representatives. Food Island Partnership was created to develop innovative food industry partnerships, culinary experiences and promotional programs.
