Enthusiastic crowds over weekend kick off Fall Flavours Festival
If the weekend’s Festin Acadien Avec Homard in Abram-Village and the Prince Edward Island Beer Festival in Charlottetown are any indication, the 2016 Fall Flavours Festival will delight Festival patrons right throughout the month of September.
“Festin has always been a great start to the Festival and this year is no exception” says John Rowe, Chair of Food Island Partnership, the Festival’s organizer. “Celebrity Chef Anna Olson hosted an incredible evening with a huge crowd that loved every minute, and the PEI Beer Festival drew an even larger crowd than last year with a sell out audience on Saturday evening. We have a fabulous lineup for Fall Flavours and this is just the beginning.”
Fall Flavours officially kicked off Friday with Festin Acadien as the first of its fifteen Signature Events. Included in Signature Events still to come are four that are new for this year; Tuna Tableau at Basin Head, hosted by Chef Chuck Hughes, on September 8th, and Chef Michael Smith hosts Grilling and Chilling at Bay Fortune on September 25th. On October 1st, Chef Lynn Crawford hosts Chefs Gala by the Sea in Charlottetown and on October 2nd Anna Olson is back for Mussels on the Hill at Clinton Hills.
Fall Flavours takes place at locations across Prince Edward Island from September 2nd – October 2nd, and Celebrity Chefs will host at each of the fifteen Signature Events. In additional to PEI’s own Chef Michael Smith, visiting chefs are Chef Lynn Crawford, Chef Corbin, Chef Chuck Hughes, Chef Vikram Vij, Chef Anna Olson and Chef Mark McEwan.
Other Signature Events include Taste of New Glasgow (Sept. 9th, Chef Michael Smith), Oysters on the Pier (Sept. 10th Chef Chuck Hughes), Lobster Party on the Beach (Sept. 11th, Chef Vikram Vij), PEI International Shellfish Festival and Feast & Frolic (Sept. 15th – 18th, Chef Lynn Crawford), Savour Victoria (Sept. 17th, Chef Corbin), Toe Taps & Taters (Sept. 23rd, Chef Michael Smith), Namaste Lamb at Rodd Crowbush Beach and Golf Resort (Sept. 24th, Chef Vikram Vij), ) Great Big BBQ (Sept. 29th, Chef Mark McEwan) and Beef N’ Blues (Sept. 30th, Chef Corbin).
“Signature Events are our marquee events, but there’s lots to be excited about with our Culinary Events lineup, too” says Rowe, “They offer more intimate settings and feature outstanding local chefs and food experiences.” Leading the way in the large range of intriguing Culinary Events are Hoedown Throwdown and Oktoberfest in Clinton Hills, The Great Island Grilled Cheese Challenge at COWS Creamery and Hopyard Tacos, Tats and Trims, along with more twenty other Culinary Events scheduled across the Island.
In addition to Signature and Culinary Events, the Festival features a wide selection of hands-on Culinary Adventures and an extensive Restaurant Dining program. Restaurants feature special fall-inspired menus, with more than thirty-five participating restaurants across Prince Edward Island. A complete list of restaurants and menus are available at www.fallflavours.ca
“Fall Flavours presents the very best of our Prince Edward Island foods, prepared by world-class culinary artists.” says Chairman Rowe. “I encourage Islanders and visitors alike to take full advantage of this incredible opportunity to enjoy culinary experiences as good as any in the world.”
The Fall Flavours Festival, held at venues across Prince Edward Island from Sept. 2nd – October 2nd is hosted by Canada’s Food Island and is an initiative of the Food Island Partnership. Food Island Partnership is a collaboration between the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Prince Edward Island departments of Economic Development and Tourism, and Agriculture and Fisheries, as well as industry representatives. Food Island Partnership was created to develop innovative food industry partnerships, culinary experiences and promotional programs.
