Fall Flavours Guests.

With the PEI Fall Flavours Festival starting this week, we wanted to share an update with you, our valued guests.

As you may be aware, earlier this week, Feast and Frolic & the PEI International Shellfish Festival made the difficult decision to cancel due to the evolving public health situation in schools in the Charlottetown area.

It’s hard to understand how some events can proceed while others can’t. The key factors typically relate to the size of the event and venue and the impact public health guidelines will have on our ability to meet guest expectations.

At this time, we are happy to announce that our events for this weekend are all proceeding as planned. This includes Beef N’ Blues, The Island Walk Food Hike, and Clammin and Jammin.

There is also one event cancellation to report. By the Sea and Under the Harvest Moon, scheduled for September 24-26, will be cancelled. If you are booked for this event, we will automatically refund your credit card. Please allow up to 14 days for the refund to be processed. If your method of payment has changed, please get in touch with info@tidalevents.io.

As always, your health and safety and that of our staff are our top priority. Please read on for our recommendations for safe event participation and to ensure Fall Flavours is enjoyable.

At this time, public gathering sizes have not changed on PEI. Non-medical masks are required to be worn in all indoor places when not eating, drinking or seated at your table.

Event Seating: Fall Flavours events do not have assigned seating. We highly recommend you arrive at the event with the people you would like to sit with. Please note, you may be seated at a table with people outside of your party.

The Island-wide mask mandate has been reinstated on Prince Edward Island as of Friday, September 17, 2021. You will be required to wear a mask at all times except when eating and drinking.

People sitting at the same table are not required to social distance, but event staff will do their best to ensure 2m/6ft between the tables.

As always, your adherence to ongoing public health measures continues to be very important to protect yourself and other attendees:

Stay home when you are sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

Get tested if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

Wash your hands frequently.

Get vaccinated to protect yourself and others.

The Festival is in regular communication with the Chief Public Health Officer on Prince Edward Island. We will continue to monitor the situation, and should any future changes be required; we will notify you as soon as possible.

You are very important to us. If for any reason you have changed your mind, we are happy to offer a full refund no questions asked. To request a refund, click the button below. If for some reason you have trouble requesting your refund, please contact info@tidalevents.io.

August 5, 2021 – Charlottetown, PE – Tickets for the PEI Fall Flavours Festival and PEI International Shellfish Festival are now on sale. New details about each festival were also released today, including the biggest entertainment line-up ever for the Shellfish Festival, new Fall Flavours events, and the slate of guest chefs set to host festival events.

“It’s great to get back to doing what PEI does best. It’s no secret that Prince Edward Island is Canada’s Food Island, and these festivals are a big reason why,” said Minister of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture, Matthew MacKay. “After the last 17 months, both Islanders and our visitors are craving connection, community, excitement and delicious Island food. These festivals are the perfect opportunity to promote our world-famous hospitality and our Island culture that makes PEI so special.”

For the first time ever, the two festivals will kick-off together with Feast & Frolic presented by Lobster Fishers of PEI on September 16 at the Charlottetown Event Grounds. Chef Ned Bell will co-host the event alongside local talents including Chef Jesse MacDonald, Chef Andrew Smith and Canadian Chef of the Year, Irwin MacKinnon.

The Shellfish Festival, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, will feature three jam-packed days and nights of shellfish celebrations, including an impressive line-up of live entertainment. Chef Ned Bell, founder of Chefs for Oceans and Chef Ambassador for Ocean Wise, will host the weekend’s celebrations.

This year’s headlining acts at the Shellfish Festival include Newfoundland sensation, Alan Doyle, and the ever-popular Big Bad Party Band. Logan Richard, The Love Junkies, and Fabulously Rich will also make appearances on the mainstage, along with other talented Island entertainers.

“On behalf of the City Council and all of us here in Charlottetown, we say a huge thank you to the entire organization and of course the many sponsors who have made the PEI Fall Flavours Festival and PEI International Shellfish Festival possible,” said Charlottetown Mayor Philip Brown. “The success of both these festivals is phenomenal, and relies on the hard work and determination of many volunteers committed to them year after year.”

A full slate of Industry competitions will run throughout the weekend, including the Garland Canada Chef Showdown. This intense culinary competition will see 4 incredible chefs from across Canada compete live for a $10,000 prize. This year’s competitors are Chef Carmen Ingham of The Pointe Restaurant at the Wickaninnish Inn (BC), Chef Kyle Puddester of Fork (NL), Chef Phil Nguyen of Nuoc Mam and Open Concept Hospitality (ON), and Chef Samantha Medeiros of La Palma + Casa La Palma (ON).

A new ticketing format at the Shellfish Festival will allow festival-goers more flexibility to choose between an afternoon-only pass starting at $10, an all-day pass starting at $35, or a weekend pass starting at $70. The new afternoon pass will allow entry to enjoy the industry competitions, food pavilion, and local entertainment on the mainstage, but excludes access to the tent during the evening headlining acts. Festival-goers will also be able to enjoy contactless payment, with the introduction of a rechargeable card that can be loaded with Shellfish Bucks and used through tap at all vendors.

The PEI Fall Flavours Festival presented by Sobeys is also coming back in full force. Set to run from September 16th to October 10th, the Island’s premier culinary festival will feature a jam-packed schedule of food events and adventures hosted by new and returning guest chefs.

Tickets are now on sale for all Fall Flavours events, including the festival’s first-ever all-inclusive 3 day culinary experience hosted by Island East at Rodd Brudenell River Resort.

The exclusive three-day, two-night package, By The Sea, Under the Harvest Moon, will feature an opening reception, live comedy, an immersive activity of the guest’s choice, a signature dinner hosted by Chef Corbin Tomaszeski, and all other meals. Guests are encouraged to purchase this package early due to very limited capacity.

This year’s festival will also feature a number of new culinary events alongside popular returning favourites. Brand new events include the Cavendish Beach Couples Classic – Fall Edition, a non-competitive golfing and culinary event, the Fall Flavours Food Hike, and Street Feast, a 2-day celebration of food and farming set to take place in downtown Charlottetown.

In total, the Festival will host 13 Signature Events, including its Taste of Coastal Communities series presented by Atlantic Lottery. Culinary events, culinary adventures, and local dining experiences will round out the festival’s packed schedule.

As always, the Fall Flavours Festival will welcome guest chefs from across the country to work alongside local chefs at its Signature Events. Confirmed guest chefs include Ned Bell, Michael Smith, Jesse Vergen, Renee LaValle, Stephen Barrett, Alaine Bosse, Patrick McMurray, Corbin Tomaszeski, Lynn Crawford and Chuck Hughes.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PEI’s Two Biggest Culinary Festivals Set to Return in Full Force This September

July 19, 2021 – Charlottetown, PE – Canada’s Food Island is getting set to bring back its two biggest culinary festivals this September and both are gearing up to deliver jam-packed event schedules. The PEI Fall Flavours Festival and the PEI International Shellfish Festival will kick-off together for the first time with Feast & Frolic on September 16 at the Charlottetown Event Grounds.

“We’re delighted to be bringing the Fall Flavours Festival back this fall. We’re starting just after travel restrictions are fully lifted and extending the festival until Thanksgiving so more visitors can enjoy the festival,” said Mitch Cobb, chair of Food Island Partnership, the organization that spearheads the festival. “These past sixteen months have really reinforced how important our local farmers and fishers are to our Island community and the festival is a great way to show our support. We’re really looking forward to launching in partnership with the International Shellfish Festival, it’s just going to elevate the excitement to another level.”

The PEI Fall Flavours Festival will run from September 16th to October 10th in communities across the province. Visitors and locals can look forward to the return of popular Signature Events, including Toe Taps & Taters, Beef N’ Blues, and Savour Victoria. An exciting twist on Lobster Party and a brand new 3-day Street Feast in Charlottetown are also part of the festival’s enticing four-week schedule, along with plenty of other culinary events.

This year, Fall Flavours guest chefs, including Chef Michael Smith and Chef Chuck Hughes will be making appearances alongside popular Atlantic Canadian chefs that will be announced in the coming weeks.

The return of the PEI Fall Flavours Festival in 2021 is possible due to the on-going support of its returning title sponsor, Sobeys. The much-beloved Taste of Coastal Communities series is also back with the support of Atlantic Lottery. It will include a Taste of Georgetown, An Exclusive Evening at Red Shores, and an event in the North Cape region.

“We are thrilled that Fall Flavours is back this year and that Atlantic Lottery is able to sponsor the festival,” said Patrick Daigle, Atlantic Lottery President and CEO. “We are looking forward to celebrating the incredible food, culture and people that make Prince Edward Island so special.”

Marking its 25th anniversary this year, the PEI International Shellfish Festival is pulling out all the stops to welcome back loyal fans and impress new festival-goers during its four-day event, which runs from September 16th to 19th.

“After a pause in 2020 due to the pandemic, we are returning this September to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the PEI International Shellfish Festival,” said Liam Dolan, Festival Chair. “The festival has grown from a one day event on the waterfront to PEI’s largest culinary celebration and it is recognized internationally. There’s lots of excitement and anticipation for this year’s return.”

The festival’s signature kick-off event, Feast & Frolic, will take place on Thursday, September 16 and is catered by local chefs Irwin MacKinnon, Andrew Smith, and Jesse MacDonald, along with a guest celebrity chef still to be announced. This trio of talented PEI chefs will be collaborating to create an unforgettable feast of PEI lobster, oysters, mussels, and beef for the event’s 325 guests.

The famous Eastlink Kitchen Party will return and bring high energy and plenty of party vibes to the big tent. Festival-goers can also look forward to more live entertainment during the days in celebration of the Festival’s anniversary will support local musicians and entertainers post-pandemic.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 1, 2020

Charlottetown, PE – Canada’s Food Island is adapting to support PEI’s food industry and tourism operators during the global pandemic caused by COVID-19.

“Canada’s Food Island typically hosts the month-long PEI Fall Flavours Festival and is rolling out a series of initiatives aimed at meeting the Festival’s mandates”, says Mitch Cobb, Chair of Food Island Partnership. “Celebrity chefs, local food advocates and tourism operators will all be engaged to help celebrate PEI food and encourage visitation to the Island this fall.”

Canada’s Food Island is launching a gift card program to encourage Islanders and visitors to buy and spend locally. Whether golfing, shopping, or enjoying PEI’s world-famous flavours, this easy-to-use gift card supports businesses Island-wide. Accommodation partners have created packages including free gift cards. Launching later this month, Canada’s Food Island gift cards will be sold to consumers at a twenty percent discount during the program period at Mel’s Convenience, Murphy’s Pharmacy and Co-op locations in Souris, O’Leary and Tignish, with additional retail partners coming soon. For more information about Canada’s Food Island Gift Card program visit www.canadasfoodisland.ca.

PEI food will also be in the social media spotlight thanks to the Fall Flavours’ Local Food Advocates. These local ambassadors of Canada’s Food Island come from all walks of life and will be dining out, highlighting staycations, and taking in culinary adventures all while celebrating PEI ingredients through their social media platforms.

“From ocean views to rolling hills, Prince Edward Island offers some 200 kilometres of joyful, memorable experiences you will want to repeat again and again,” said the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. “Locals await your arrival with everything from delicious food to their renowned hospitality, making you feel welcome and never want to leave. Our government is pleased to support the Food Island Partnership for its efforts to create a successful 2020 Fall Flavours Festival experience during these challenging times. Our message to PEI’s tourism sector is clear: we’ve been here for you with immediate measures, we’re here for you now as our economy reopens and we’ll get through this, together. We’re working with you to support good, local jobs and help PEI tourism come back strong.”

Foodies in Toronto are also enjoying a taste of Prince Edward Island when they purchase Canada’s Food Island Meal Kits. The kits offer a PEI Patio Party in a box featuring PEI lobster, oysters, mussels, potatoes, and beef along with chef-inspired menus created by The McEwan Group. Through this partnership, the McEwan Group has been selling kits since July. Kits will be available until the end of September online and at their two Toronto locations.

“Now, more than ever before, we need innovative and creative solutions to continue promoting our province as Canada’s Food Island,” said Minister of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture Matthew MacKay. “I applaud Food Island Partnership for working hard to adapt to our current global circumstances so that the Fall Flavours Festival can proceed this year in a new way that continues to promote all the tourism products Prince Edward Island has to offer.”

PEI’s celebrity chef, Michael Smith, will also showcase the Island’s rich food scene in a series of videos proudly presented by Sobeys. Viewers will be invited to follow along as Chef Michael explores different regions of the Island, meets local characters, and cooks up delicious dishes showcasing PEI ingredients.

“It’s never been more important to support our Island’s food producers than it is right now. We’re looking forward to working with our many Fall Flavours and industry partners to continue celebrating and showcasing Canada’s Food Island in new and exciting ways,” added Cobb.
