Honouring Tradition: 15 Years of the PEI Fall Flavours Food &Drink Festival

We don’t know where the years went, but here we are in 2023 celebrating the 15th anniversary of the PEI Fall Flavours Food & Drink Festival presented by Sobeys. Indeed, time flies when you’re having fun and great food! It’s been an incredible journey from its humble beginnings in Charlottetown to an Island-wide festival garnering international acclaim. As we say ‘cheers’ to 15 years, we’re excited to introduce a slate of brand new events AND bring back some of the Festival’s most beloved events. Here’s your handy guide to all of the returning festival favourites that will be bringing their A-game back to this year’s culinary extravaganza:

Farm Day in the City – October 1
PEI’s biggest farmers’ market of the year returns to downtown Charlottetown on October 1st. This magical celebration of PEI’s farmers, food producers and artisans has been an integral part of the PEI Fall Flavours Food & Drink Festival since its very inception. Over the years, Farm Day in the City has grown tremendously. In recent years, this free and family-friendly day of fun has featured 200+ vendors, multiple stages with live music, kids’ activities, a petting farm, friendly competitions, a beer garden and more! Come, discover what this year’s Farm Day has in store and take the opportunity to ‘buy local’!

Street Feast – October 6-7
Making its return to the streets of downtown Charlottetown on Oct 6th & 7th, Street Feast has earned a reputation for bringing high-octane vibes, a diverse line-up of entertainment and scrumptious street eats to PEI’s capital. Get yourself to Kent Street for all the fun, including food and drink from local restos, live music, drag shows, party games, live painting, tarot card readings, dance performances, and more.

PEI Lobster Party – October 5
There is arguably nothing more quintessential ‘PEI’ than a lobster party! Snag your tickets early because this cracking event always sells out fast. And it’s no wonder it’s so popular, the PEI Lobster Party is a shellfish lovers’ dream come true! A team of chefs, led by the talented and creative Chef Jesse MacDonald will be serving up fresh PEI oysters, an array of PEI lobster dishes, craft beer, and other local delicacies. In true PEI party style, the evening will also feature live music and you’ll even have the chance to mingle with local lobster fishers.

A Taste of Georgetown – October 3

‘Dinner and a show’ gets a fresh twist at this longstanding Festival event, which takes in the heart of Eastern PEI. Enjoy a feast of locally-inspired culinary creations prepared by a team of talented chefs, while you sip on a signature cocktail. Then it’s time to settle in for an entertaining theatrical performance at the historic King’s Playhouse. This popular event truly serves up an authentic taste of Georgetown – be prepared to fall in love with this charming village and its genuine people!

Chef’s Island – October 7
Chef’s Island is back again with a line-up of chef talents ready to wow your taste buds with small plates of culinary bliss. Hosted by the Culinary Federation of PEI, this always-popular evening of food and fun is your opportunity to see the Island’s best talents strut their stuff. There will be duels (not as dangerous as it may sound) with commentary by comedian Patrick Ledwell and the chance to cast your vote for best chef, too!

3rd Annual Sip N’ Slurp – October 7
Back for its 3rd year, Sip N’ Slurp delivers on its promise of a laid-back evening filled with great food, delightful drinks, foot-stompin music, and good company! Head ‘up West’ to Tyne Valley and get ready to slurp PEI oysters, sip craft beers and ciders, and soak up the raucous party vibes that pair perfectly with the food and drink.

Megapaji: Experience Lennox Island – October 8
Megapaji made its Festival debut in 2022 and won over the hearts and taste buds of everyone that attended. This one-of-a-kind event invites guests to connect with Epektwik’s rich Indigenous culture and enduring community on Lennox Island. Set against the backdrop of Malpeque Bay’s shimmering waters, you can look forward to an afternoon of locally-sourced dishes prepared over open fire, cherished Indigenous traditions, and genuine connections with Indigenous artisans from the region. It’s an experience you’ll remember long after you’ve made your way home.
