“Megapaji: To Eat in Abundance” offers a one of a kind cultural and culinary experience that cannot be found anywhere else in Atlantic Canada. The open fire preparation of PEI lobster, oysters, and mussels, combined with storytelling and traditional techniques, creates a unique food experience that celebrates both land and sea. It’s not just a meal, it’s a cultural journey that appeals to foodies and culinary visitors looking for deeper connections to place and tradition.
The experience will take place in the community of Lennox Island, overlooking the beautiful Malpeque Bay.
Guests will have the option to take part in a Quillwork on Birchbark authentic cultural experience prior to the main event, and can purchase this ticket type to arrive early and participate in the hands-on workshop, creating their own quillwork on birchbark under the guidance of a skilled Mi’kmaq artisan. (Additional fees apply.)
Guests attending solely “To Eat in Abundance” will be warmly welcomed upon arrival by Mi’kmaq artisans. Demonstrations will highlight the detailed craftsmanship behind traditional ash basket making, moose hide drum making, porcupine quillwork, and birchbark artistry, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with and learn about these important cultural practices.
From there, visitors will be invited to the west side of the grounds to take part in a Traditional Smudging Ceremony, led by a Mi’kmaq Knowledge Keeper. Following the ceremony, guests will enjoy a feast featuring an exceptional menu of locally sourced foods, thoughtfully prepared over open fire pits.
Throughout the experience, teachings will be shared about Mi’kmaq culture, history, and lived truths. The atmosphere will be enriched by Mi’kmaq singing and drumming, as guests gather in the tent to enjoy a variety of dishes from multiple food stations before the main stage performances begin.
Chef Ray Bear and his team will be joining us to prepare the culinary experience again this year.
Jamie Thomas, Director of Culture and Tourism for the Lennox Island First Nation, will emcee.
